Question

Do dogs rely on humans MORE than they rely on themselves?

Hypothesis

I believe that dogs rely on humans more than they rely on themselves.

The Procedure

1. I let the dog sniff the treat.
2. Then I put the treat on 1 plate and had an empty plate in a different room than the dog.
3. Then the owner stood by the empty plate.
4. Then someone opened the door and I started the timer.
5. We saw if the dog would come to the treat plate or the empty plate with the owner.
6. Then I would stop the timer once the dog got to one plate 0r the other.

Materials

6 dogs
2 plastic plates
timer
6 beggin strips (one for each dog)

Information On The Dogs

Chloe- Is a girl dog, a collie, and the person in the family she listens to the best is the dad. She has lived with the family for 6 years. She is my dog!!!8-)

Daisy- Is a girl dog, a mix breed, and the person in the family she listens to the best is the mom. She has lived with the family for 4 years.

Scamp- Is a boy dog, is a Shitzu, and the person in the family he listens to the best is the daughter, who is 11 years old. He has lived with the family for 6 years.

Angel- Is a girl dog, is a Shitzu, and the person in the family she listens to the best is the daughter, who is 13 years old. She has lived with the family for 4 years. Scamp is her brother!!!!!!!

Rusty- Is a boy dog, is a mutt, and the person in the family he listens to the best is the daughter, who is 14 years old. He has lived with the family for 6 years.

Stitch- Is a boy dog, is a Yorkie poo, and the person in the family he listens to the best is the dad. He has lived with the family for 1 year.

What the dogs did...

Chloe went to the empty plate and it took her 6 seconds.

Daisy went to the empty plate and it took her 11 seconds.

Scamp went to the empty plate and it took him 6 seconds.

Angel went to the treat and it took her 9 seconds.

Rusty went to the empty plate and it took him 4 seconds!!!

Stitch went to the treat and it took him 16 seconds.

Conclusion

I come to conclude that YES dogs do rely on humans more than they rely on themselves. After time passes, dogs grow to trust their owners. The two dogs that went to the treat were Angel and Stitch. Stitch has only lived with the family for a year, so he may not be 100% comfortable yet. Angel has lived with the family for 4 years, but this is just her personality! I personally thought they chose the wrong person to do it. I thought that the mom is who she listens to the best, but that was their choice. 4 out of 6 dogs went to the treat though, so I think that the majority of the dog population rely on humans more than they rely on themselves.
